More than 200K small businesses could close permanently amid pandemic: CFIB
“More than 200,000 Canadian small businesses could shut their doors permanently due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, jeopardizing close to three million private-sector jobs in the worst-case scenario, according to a recent survey by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).
The organization estimates 181,000 small entrepreneurs are seriously considering closing down their businesses after a spike in case counts prompted a new wave of government lockdowns and restrictions.”

This protest in support of small & medium size businesses had a thousand or so folks turn out on April 2nd 2021 in Vancouver. If a new edict from on high should order all “non-essential” businesses to close to keep bending or flattening the curve, we MUST support any small businesses here on Salt Spring who should choose to exercise their freedom to make a living under Canada’s Charter of Rights. We too must make a stand. Because countless thousands of businesses have already gone under here in Canada in the name of protecting us from a virus that 99.98 % of us can withstand. See the report Flying Blind put out by the Canadian Centre for Constitutional Freedoms which estimated that by June of 2020 there were 100,000 fewer businesses open than in the same time period the previous year…
